Making the mesh background on Irish Crochet Amazing

Irish Crochet

Isn't this amazing look at how fine the cotton thread is and how beautiful the rose and leaf motifs are.  It's very interesting to watch how the filling stitch work is done.

You can see some of Ira Rott finished Irish crochet dress at her Gallery here There is some other crochet dress using other crochet styles

My much loved lap rug, in need of a little TLC

I would like to show you a well-loved crochet lap rug using different size granny squares. This rug was made by my grandmother back in the 1970 before arthritis made it too hard for her to crochet. If you look very closely you will see that the dark green yarn is disintegrating causing it to unravel. The reason for this disintegration is that the green yarn is pure wool and the other yarns are acrylic. I’m going to try and mend it. I will keep you posted

Splash Beret

I made this beret a year ago to match the most amazing scarf I was given as a gift. It is made  with King Cole Splash DK yarn.

It includes a front post double crochet (FP dc) stich that gives it a raised effect. It’s hard to see in this yarn thought. Mick was looking for a Green White and Orange Rasta type hat to wear to the European Soccer Championships

I thought I would do a version of this design. What do you think?

A little Gem at the Supermarket

I know I told you I was going out to snap picture of the different thing that are for sale in crochet. I realized you might think me a little odd.

But  have a look at this little bag made out of string, its  cute, not very big 8ins x 6 ins 20cm x 15cm with a tan shoulder strap. I found this on the shelves of my local supermarket, Perfect color to go with the creamy colors of the old world floral prints that are making a comeback this spring and summer

I even found books about crochet wire jewellery.
Crocheted Wire Jewelry: Innovative Designs
& Projects by Leading Artists (Lark Jewelry Books)

If you have any strange and wonderful ideas for crochet I would love to here from you.
I am going to take my camera with me today to see what crochet items I can find out there

Wandering round the local shops today I realized how many different yarns can be used to crochet, and how many different skills can be used to give us an unbelievable range of varieties and designs, "the thinks we can make with just yarn and a hook"In the next few days we will have a look at all that is  possible, so we understand  the limits that can not be put on our hooking.

St. Patricks Day is coming

I thought I'd take my hook out and do some small items for the small people in my life, in green white and orange to help the celebrations.  St. Patricks Day is big here in Ireland they even give us a day off work. I always feel you need to make some effort to get the festivities of to a good start. I haven't decide what I'm going to make yet. Might be shamrock jewellery, a flowered headband, pocket scarves or junior waistcoats. I have the yarns, I have the hooks,
Watch this Space.
Tell me you don't have ever  hooks size, colour and thickness of yarn skulking in the cupboards and wardrobes in your house!!!!
